Lake Ossiach / Der Ossiacher See
is located in the southern Nockgebirge the Gurktaler Alps on the road from Villach to Feldkirchen at an altitude of 501 m. It reaches a maximum depth of 52.6 m, the surface is about 10.8 km2.
The Ossiacher See is a dimiktischer¹ lake with mixing times in spring and late autumn. In summer, the surface water reaches 28 ° C. Several uninhabited parts of the coast are protected as nature reserves. The main tributary is the Tiebel Brook in the eastern bay, where the lead moor is currently being reintroduced. The lake flows over the Seebach into the Drava.
there are around the lake five main places that are mainly dependent on summer tourism: Annenheim and Sattendorf, both parts belong to Treffen, Bodensdorf and Steindorf, all located on the north bank, and Ossiach the monastery Ossiach, after which the lake is named. The Gerlitzen on the north bank rise up to 1.909 m and offer panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. From Annenheim, the Kanzelhöhe can be reached by cable car, which was built in 1928 by Bleichert engineering office.
